Pay staff commission and read the breakdown

Where commission lives, how to open the full per-item breakdown behind each Earned figure, how to record a payout, and how to add a manual bonus or clawback.

Flowesce works out commission as your staff earn it, keeps a record of every figure that goes into it, and lets you mark it paid. This guide shows where to find it, how to see exactly what makes up a staff member's total, and how to record a payout or a one-off adjustment.

Where commission lives

Open Payroll from the main menu, then the Commission payouts tab. You get one row per staff member: their service commission, product commission, the total Earned, what you have already Paid, and what is still Unpaid, with a Mark as paid button on the right. Change the date range at the top to look at a different period.

See exactly what makes up a figure

This is easy to miss, so it is worth pointing out: the Earned amount on each row is a button. Select it and a panel opens listing every item that contributed to that staff member's commission for the period. For each one you see the appointment or sale it came from, the amount it was based on, the rate, and the commission it produced.

Refunds, removed appointments, and manual adjustments appear here too, each as its own row with a plus or minus, so the rows always add up to the total. Where an item links to an appointment or a sale, you can jump straight to it from the panel.

If you only ever look at the totals, this is the view that answers "where did this number come from."

How the figure is worked out

Each piece of commission is locked in at the moment it is earned. The rate in effect that day is saved onto that earning, so if you change a staff member's rate later, only future work uses the new rate and everything already earned stays exactly as it was. If an appointment is later refunded or removed, Flowesce adds a matching clawback at the same locked-in rate rather than quietly rewriting the past. That is why the breakdown can show a clawback or a reversal as a separate line.

Commission start date

Each staff member has an optional commission start date on their Commission tab, the "Commission starts on" field. Commission only counts from that date forward, which is handy for a probation period or a clean start-of-employment cutoff. Leave it blank to count from their first earned item.

Record a payout

When you actually pay someone, select Mark as paid on their row. Confirm the amount (it prefills to what is outstanding, and you can enter less for a partial payout), the period, and an optional note such as a bank reference. This records that the commission was paid. It does not move any money and does not change the earned figures. The row's Unpaid amount drops by what you recorded, and the payout appears on the History tab.

Add a bonus or a clawback by hand

Inside the breakdown panel there is an Adjust button. Use it to add a manual amount to a staff member's commission with a required note: the plus sign for a bonus, the minus sign for a clawback. It writes its own line in the breakdown and changes the total, without touching any existing earning.

What's next

To set or change someone's rate, open their staff record and the Commission tab. To understand how worked hours sit alongside commission, and what to do when one person covers another's shift, see when a staff member covers another's shift.
